The company has today positioned itself in two main segments of the building industry:
- The typical third party contracting, where it undertakes projects as the main contractor to commercial, industrial and residential developments.
- The construction and development of its own residential estates and homes for sale.

Mag Developments (Pty) Ltd was first established back in 1985 by its founder Mr L.M Magalhaes (Senior).
Mr. Magalhaes has over fifty years worth of building experience, commencing in his teenage years in his native Portugal and early adulthood in Zimbabwe. In 1983 Mr Magalhaes emigrated to South Africa and established Mag Builders CC. As the cliché goes, the business started in the garage of Mr Magalhaes home in The Hill, Southern Johannesburg and now operates at its 4000 m2 premises in the suburb of Electron.
The business grew at a rapid pace and took on multi-million Rand projects; its staff compliment consistes of well over 150 employees from the unskilled to having its own team of professional architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and project managers.
In the early twentieth century Mr. Magalhaes opened Mag Developments (Pty) Ltd. It was at this time that Mr Magalhaes (Senior) assigned his son Mr Luis Magalhaes (Junior) a qualified Quantity Surveying and Project Management.
Luis (Jnr) as he is known to his clients and business associates is responsible with the administration, procurement, tendering and project management.
The business is further supported in the financial affairs of the company by Mr. Magalhaes other son Rui Magalhaes. Rui qualified as a chartered accountant in 2001 and is a registered member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
A Mag Developments client becomes a client for life as can be proven by the number of recurring business that it receives from past clients.
